After heavy rainfalls in the last two months, the seafood season has now commenced. Please find below a summary of this week’s catch scenario in and around Mumbai, Gujarat and surrounding areas. If you require any further information please contact us at pgk@vsnl.com.

Mumbai Region:

Squid: Squid has not started in good quantities in this region. The majority of squid caught are in small sizes of the following dimensions:
10/20
20/40-max
40/60-max
60/UP

Ribbon fish: This week Ribbonfish averages to about 35 tonnes/day in the Mumbai region. The following are the major sizes:
100/200 - max
200/300
300/400
400/UP

Big Cuttlefish: An average of about 10 tonnes/day of big size cuttlefish have been caught in this region. The sizes are:
300/500
500/1kg - max
1kg/up - max

Croaker: Croaker has experienced good catches this week in the Mumbai region – averaging about 35 tonnes/day. The following are the sizes that are being caught:
50/100- max
100/200-max
200/300
300/UP

Tiny shrimps: This has also been in good quantities of about 20 tonnes/day, mainly in head-on sizes:
100/200
200/300 - max
300/500

Medium Brown shrimps: This week the catch has been about 15 tonnes/day.The head-on size count is:
80/100 - max
100/120 -max
120/150
150/UP

Pink shrimps: The catch has been average this week of about 5 tonnes/day in following head-on count sizes:
40/50 - max
50/60 - max
60/80
80/UP

Lobster: Lobster catch has been about 5 tonnes/day in the following sizes:
100/200
200/300
300/500 - max
500/UP

Reef cod: There have been about 5 tonnes/day of Reef cod in the following sizes:
200/300 - max
300/500 - max

Tuna: Approximately there have been 6-7 tonnes/day of Big Eye Tuna catches mainly in sizes 1kg/up.

Horse Mackerel: Horse Mackerel is also present in this week catches in about 5 tonnes/day in size 2/4.

Sea Tiger: Sea tiger catches have now started and are now available in the following sizes:
2/4
4/6
8/12
(2/4 & 4/6 being in the majority)

Black Tiger: Due to heavy rains, the harvest has been delayed resulting mainly the following bigger sizes:
16/20
21/25

Gujarat Region:

In the Gujarat region, there has been a good landing of Ribbonfish and Croaker. The major catch in Ribbonfish has been in sizes 300/400 & 400/500 – about 50%. Gujarat has also experienced good quantities of Tuna fish, especially Long Tail Tuna and Yellow Fin Tuna. A reasonable amount of Cuttlefish in sizes U/50, 50/100 & 100/150 have also been found. Tiny shrimps and Black Pomfret catches have also started in this region.
